Empty Floor grew out of the desire to discover what is hidden: to explore the experiences of all those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The piece wants to break the taboo by raising awareness on the various manifestations of the disease. The dancers share the stage with senior volunteers who, for an evening, give people with Alzheimer’s a face by sharing their feelings, fears and joys.
By highlighting both the most painful and the funniest moments, Empty Floor shows the power and joy of the life hidden behind the uncomfortable shame of patients and their families. These productions always involve local senior associations. The performance is danced by Imperfect Dancers Company, under the artistic direction of Walter Matteini and Ina Broeckx.
This artistic duo has already received much critical acclaim and many prestigious awards. Together with Imperfect Dancers Company, they have completely taken over the contemporary dance scene. Energetic, emotional, receptive and motivated are signature words for this group. Their choreographic language is intensely physical, done so for their quest to uncover, understand, and explore the human soul and its different facets.
