The press and the public are left speechless by Marietta Petkova’s soulful piano skills. The Bulgarian/Dutch star pianist touches sensitive strings. Her recitals seem to meet an ever-increasing need for genuine rapture of the soul, as witnessed by her sold-out concert halls of last season. Her new program is an ode to imagination and feeling. Petkova breathes new life into the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin and Claude Debussy. A unique experience for young and old, connoisseurs and non-connoisseurs

Marietta Petkova was born on the Danube, in Ruse, Bulgaria. She studied in Sofia, Vienna (with Paul Badura-Skoda), Banff (as a Resident Artist) and in Amsterdam, where she completed her studies in 1994 with Jan Wijn with a distinction. She also took lessons for ten years with the famous pianist György Sebök, who played a key role in her musical development.

In 1992 Marietta Petkova performed for the first time in the Netherlands. For the Dutch TV program Jonge Mensen op het Concert-podium, she performed Rachmaninov's 3rd Piano Concerto with the Radio Symphony Orchestra. She subsequently overwhelmed the press and the public with Rachmaninov recitals in Amsterdam (Concertgebouw) and Nijmegen (De Vereeniging). 'Petkova grandiose' and 'Pianist Petkova: ideal Rachmaninov' read the headlines for De Telegraaf and NRC Handelsblad. She had her international breakthrough with her live recordings from Lausanne of Rachmaninov's complete Etudes-Tableaux and Preludes.

Today Marietta Petkova enjoys a blossomed career. She is known for her authenticity and versatility. 'Whether it's Rachmaninov, Bach, Brahms or Liszt, Petkova plays phenomenal’, wrote HP/De Tijd about her popular CD Encores. She has also been called the 'ideal Mozart pianist' on the occasion of her CD with the Concertgebouw Chamber Ochestra.

Marietta is a Steinway Artist and has a successful live CD series on the Bloomline label. After the concert Marietta Petkova will sign her CDs in the foyer.

(Trouw).
