A beautiful new interpretation of Beethoven's only opera, which is about tyranny, freedom, strong characters, loyalty and hope. In Fidelio, Leonore disguises herself as a man to free her wrongfully imprisoned lover from prison. Beethoven's music shook up the musical world order and the roles require extraordinary singing voices. And that is exactly what the Nederlandse Reisopera has in its ranks, with the internationally renowned Dutch soprano Kelly God as Leonore.
The Nederlandse Reisopera presents a beautiful new interpretation of Beethoven's only opera, a work about tyranny, freedom, strong characters, conjugal loyalty and hope.
In Fidelio the female protagonist, Leonore, changes identities. Her lover, the nobleman Florestan, has been wrongly imprisoned by his political opponent, Governor Pizarro. Leonore disguises herself as the young man Fidelio and starts to work for the prison. There, the daughter of head prison guard Rocco falls madly in love with Fidelio. The situation escalates and Leonore must do everything in her power to free her lover from the dungeon.
Beethoven shook up the musical world order with this work. The music embraces the depths of despair and ecstatic hope of the soul, with roles that require extraordinary singing voices. And that is exactly what the Nederlandse Reisopera has in its ranks, with the internationally renowned Dutch soprano Kelly God who shines as Leonore.
