Powder Her Face

This 1995 inspired opera is based on the turbulent life of Margaret Campbell, Duchess of Argyll. She was disfavored by British high society due to a sex scandal in 1963. In the opera, the Duchess looks back on her turbulent life. It is a sensational performance due to some frankly spicy scenes, and relevant as it was one of the first cases of 'trial by media'. The director, Paul Carr, well known for his colorful and cinematic staging, provides the visualization of Philip Hensher's libretto.
