Gianmarco Moneti (piano)
On March 22, 2022, Clara lost her father. He took his own life. Clara is a close friend of pianist Gianmarco Moneti. In this concert, he tries to tell her story through music, visuals, and words. The result is a personal portrait — an attempt to approach a grief that is difficult to grasp.
Grieving after suicide is complex. It raises questions for which we often have no words. Yet, we want to understand each other. This performance invites the audience to pause and reflect on sorrow, and to empathize with someone else's pain.
The music of three composers forms the foundation of this portrait. In Grażyna Bacewicz’s Piano Sonata No. 2, anger resonates. Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Adagio & Allegro Furioso gives space to alienation. And in Gabriel Fauré’s Préludes and Nocturnes, loneliness is deeply felt. Through these pieces, Gianmarco expresses how he experiences and feels Clara’s story.
Gianmarco Moneti (born 1996, Arezzo) studied in Italy and the Netherlands. He graduated with honors from several master’s programs, including at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He has studied with renowned pianists such as Michel Béroff, Alexei Lubimov, and Enrico Pace. Gianmarco performs internationally at festivals and venues like the Goethe-Institut in Turin and the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam.
Besides his solo career, he is active as an ensemble member and founder of the Echi Festival, where new music and theater forms merge. In all his work, he seeks connection. With this performance, he tries to build a bridge between the unspeakable and the tangible through music. It is a tribute to Clara, and to the power of friendship.
