Introdans
Carmen
Introdans presents Carmen.maquia, a contemporary dance performance based on the classic story of Carmen. Spanish choreographer Gustavo Ramírez Sansano tells the story of love, passion, and jealousy with great flair. This version, specially created for a broad audience from age 6 and up, focuses on powerful dance, intense emotions, and unique design—with the rhythm of flamenco and paso doble.
Don José is a gentle soldier who falls for the fiery Carmen, but Carmen is free-spirited and refuses to be tied down. Their love ends in tragedy. This modern classic is inspired by the famous opera story but gains new meaning through its dance style, music, and set design. Everything is in black and white—from the Picasso-like backdrops to the expressive costumes.
After the success of Carmen in 2022, this performance returns in the winter of 2025–2026. Choreographer Sansano deliberately calls his work Carmen.maquia, a reference to tauromaquia—Spanish for bullfighting. He compares Carmen to an untamable bull—full of strength, mystery, and freedom.
