Storioni Trio
Zondagochtendconcert
The Storioni Trio celebrates its 25th anniversary — a milestone marked with a series of special concerts. Over the past quarter-century, these three musicians have grown into one of the world’s most renowned piano trios, performing on major stages around the globe, from Carnegie Hall in New York to Wigmore Hall in London. They’re also frequent guests at prestigious festivals such as the Kuhmo Festival in Finland and the Delft Chamber Music Festival.
The trio consists of Bart van de Roer (piano), Wouter Vossen (violin), and Marc Vossen (cello). They are named after Wouter Vossen’s violin, crafted by Laurentius Storioni in 1794. In their early years, they were mentored by legendary figures like Isaac Stern, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Menahem Pressler of the Beaux Arts Trio. In 2000, they won the Kersjes Prize — a major boost that launched their international career.
The Storioni Trio is known for its warm tone and intense musical synergy. Their performances are rich with storytelling and deeply focused on connecting with the audience. They love playing in unique venues and believe in the social power of music. Their repertoire spans from Haydn and Beethoven to contemporary composers like David Lang and Nico Muhly. Beethoven, in particular, holds a special place in their programs — they have performed the full cycle of his piano trios multiple times, on both modern and period instruments.
A notable part of their work involves performing triple concertos — works for piano, violin, cello, and orchestra. In addition to Beethoven’s famous Triple Concerto, they’ve commissioned new works from composers such as Willem Jeths, Kalevi Aho, and Kevin Volans, performing them with leading orchestras like the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
Their concert at De Harmonie is part of the Sunday Morning Piano Trio Series, which highlights the art of ensemble playing. The three musicians invite the audience into their sound world, where music becomes a bridge between eras and styles.
The trio’s anniversary year is filled with performances at venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, and De Doelen in Rotterdam. They also have recordings planned and will appear at festivals both in the Netherlands and abroad. In addition, they host their own Storioni Festival in Eindhoven, where top musicians from around the world come together to share their craft.
In short: a morning of musical color, connection, and captivating stories — told through the language of one of the world’s finest piano trios.
